The Boatswain v4 is the updated Boatswain — same size (3.94" × 2.95"), same six-to-nine card capacity, same triple-fold cash pocket. The upgrade: finger cutouts on both sides so you can grab cards without digging. If you’ve used a v3 and wanted easier card access, this is it.

What’s new in v4
The v3 had straight slot openings. The v4 adds cutouts on both sides — you can get your thumb in cleanly and pull a card without tipping the wallet. Small change, noticeable in daily use.
The leather (and why it’s named on the label)
Most card holders just say “genuine leather.” That tells you nothing. Here’s exactly what you’re getting:

Crazy Horse (Rusty, Pistachio) — waxed pull-up leather. Scratches rub out with your thumb, color shifts with carry.

Ponte Wax (Chocolate, Pumpkin) — vegetable-tanned, smooth finish. Chocolate is a rich brown; Pumpkin is a warm orange.

Ponte (Natural) — lighter natural color, patinas gradually.

Koala (Black) — smooth, even, minimal marking.

Safianino (Chocolate) — fine-grain smooth Italian leather, even color, refined look.
All full-grain — the top layer of the hide, not corrected or bonded scraps.
Who it’s not for
If the finger cutouts don’t matter to you, the Boatswain v3 covers the same carry. If you need a bifold with cash compartments, look at the Buccaneer.
FAQ
What’s the difference between the Boatswain v3 and v4?
Same size, same capacity. The v4 adds finger cutouts on both sides for faster card access. The v3 has straight slot openings. The v4 also comes in different leather colorways.
How many cards does it hold?
Six to nine. Six is the comfortable carry — two per pocket — plus folded bills in the cash pocket.
Does it block RFID?
No — and I’ll be straight about why. Someone scanning your pocket to steal a card is very rare in real life, and your bank covers fraud anyway. I’d rather give you thin, clean leather than a metal liner adding bulk for a problem most people never hit.
Does the leather scratch?
Crazy Horse (Rusty, Pistachio) marks with use — most scratches rub out with your thumb. Everything else is smoother and marks less.
How do I care for it?
Keep it out of the wash. A small amount of leather conditioner once or twice a year if it looks dry.
