ONE SHEAR® Trauma Shears – Care & Sterilization Guide

ONE SHEAR® Trauma Shears – Care & Sterilization Guide

Sterilization Instructions

ONE SHEAR® trauma shears are designed for durability and reliability in demanding medical and tactical environments. Proper sterilization ensures longevity and maintains the integrity of the DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) or Black Oxide coating.

Autoclave Sterilization (Steam)

Temperature: 121°C (250°F)

Pressure: 15 psi

Time: Maximum 15 minutes

Drying Cycle: Avoid prolonged dry heat—use a short cycle or allow to air-dry.

⚠ Important Notes:

Keep shears slightly open for effective sterilization.

Do not rapidly cool under cold water—allow natural cooling to prevent thermal stress.

Avoid excessive autoclaving, as repeated exposure may cause minor coating wear over time.

Cold Sterilization Alternatives

To extend the life of your ONE SHEAR®, consider cold sterilization methods:

Cidex OPA (Ortho-Phthalaldehyde) Soak

Hydrogen Peroxide Gas Plasma (STERRAD®)

Ethylene Oxide Gas (EtO)

These methods help maintain the integrity of the DLC/Black Oxide coating while ensuring full sterilization.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Hand Wash Recommended: Use mild soap and warm water; avoid abrasive scrubbing.

Disinfectant Wipes: Safe for quick cleanings between uses.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use bleach or highly alkaline cleaners, as they can degrade the coating.

Lubrication: Apply a drop of medical-grade lubricant to the pivot point as needed for smooth operation.

Storage Recommendations

Store in a dry environment after sterilization to prevent oxidation.

Use a sheath or MOLLE emergency identifier to protect the blades when not in use.

By following these care and sterilization guidelines, your ONE SHEAR® will maintain peak performance and durability for years to come!
